Northside Farmers' Market - Holiday Market

Northside Farmers' Market celebrates the bounty of local foods and products this holiday season.  Vendors at our market include farmers who use organic or sustainable farming methods, small batch food producers and businesses focused on product craftsmanship.

Don't Miss Out!  Our Holiday Markets are Saturdays,
December 6th and 13th
from 830am to 130pm

We will have more than two dozen vendors at our holiday market.  Products range from baby gear, handmade pastas, coffees and watercolors to great gift ideas, high-end crafts, fresh baked
goods and locally grown produce.

Northside Farmers' Market helps to promote living locally.  Your market participation helps to preserve farmland for the future by providing regional small family farmers with opportunities to sell their fruits, vegetables and other farm products.

"Within the first two pages of the Bible, we get our homework assignment: ‘tend the garden.’  A favorite poet, Wendell Berry, said, The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope.”  He also said, “A farmer’s market is worth more than everything I’ve written.”  Along with Brother Berry , I say, 'Amen.'"

Top Reasons to Buy Local Food

1. Knowing where your food comes creates a connection to your local farms and producers. When we take an interest in our foods and where they come from and how they are produced, food becomes more enjoyable and pleasurable. Food imported (within country or from other countries) from longer distances is treated with more chemicals and sits in warehouses before it finally gets to you.

2. Local produce is better for you and tastes better. The shorter the time between the farm and your table, the more likely that the food’s nutrients are retained. Also, your foods are not sprayed with ripening suppressant agents. Crops delivered locally can be picked much closer to their peak to ensure the best flavor.

3. Local food preserves genetic diversity. Purchasing from a non-mass production farmer brings more diversity to your table. Smaller farmers that support organic or sustainable crops will use more varieties to naturally ward off pests and keep the plant life healthier.

4. Local food is community. Personally connecting with the farmers and producers of the products you are consuming and using is a privilege.

5. Local food supports local families. Supporting local farming families helps ensure that the next generation of farmers can survive and thrive in this way of life.

6. Local food is an investment. By supporting local farmers today, you are helping ensure that there will be farms in your community tomorrow. Caring about where your food comes from proactively encourages producers to focus on sustainable and organic practices.

7. Local food benefits the environment and wildlife. Well-managed farms conserve fertile soil and clean water in our communities. The farm environment is a patchwork of fields, meadows, woods, ponds, and buildings that provide habitat for wildlife.
